Free Genealogy Webinars from the Family History Library
You don’t have to be in Utah to enjoy these wonderful classes. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City offers numerous webinars each month. These classes can be viewed from the comfort of your home. They are all free and offered nearly every day of the week. Their list is quite extensive, so check it out entirely by clicking on the image below. The image contains just a sneak-peek at what’s coming up these next two weeks from the Family History Library’s webinar series.
Once on their web-page, if you see a class title you are interested in, click the hyperlink that says “webinar” about 15 minutes before the webinar is to begin. (Remember, Utah is on Mountain Standard Time) You will be directed to enter your name to join in on the webinar. You may also need to download Adobe Connect or install Adobe Flash. Just follow the directions, they will let you know what (if anything) you need to download or install to be able to watch the webinar. Don’t worry, it’s really quite easy!
Free Legacy Family Tree Webinars for June
Legacy Family Tree Webinars also has free content each month. Though it is a subscription site, they offer free webinars about twice a week to the public. State Societies Offer Free Webinars, Too!
Free genealogy webinars are being offered from state genealogical societies, too. Be sure to check your own state society to see what is offered! Here is a short list of some of the webinars you might be interested in for the month of June. You do not need to be a member of these societies to enjoy the live webinar. Illinois Genealogical Society offers “Ohio and the Early Gathering of the LDS Church,” by Peggy Lauritzen on 12 June 2018. Note: This lecture is not geared toward LDS members. This lecture will focus on the members from both the United Kingdom and New England who were disowned from their families, and finished their live in the western United States.
Wisconsin Genealogical Society offers “50+ Online & Offline Sources for Finding Photos of Your Ancestors,” by Katherine R. Willson on 19 June 2018. If you haven’t inherited photos of your ancestors, learn about the 50+ potential sources that you may have overlooked, including printed media, organizations, digital sources and even distant relatives.
Southern California Genealogical Society offers “Who do You Trust With Your Trusted Research,” by Kristi Sexton, MSA on 20 June 2018. With technology today, it is easy to complete and build our family tree online or even on the computer. But what are you doing to protect your information?
Florida State Genealogical Society offers “Freedmen’s Bureau Records – Invaluable to ALL Southern Research,” by Diane L. Richard on 21 June 2018. The Freedmen’s Bureau records cover more than freed slaves – they include ex-soldiers, impoverished widows, small children, and destitute parents. They include ration, school, court, marriage, military, and more records, along with incredibly personal correspondence regarding loved ones.
Georgia Genealogical Society offers “A Week in the Life of a Farm Family,” by Annette Burke Lyttle on 27 June 2018. It’s a rare family tree that doesn’t contain at least some farm families. What was daily life like for our farming ancestors?
