Singing Christmas carols are a fun tradition in our family. This year, I wanted to write some special lyrics that had a little family history flair! I hope you enjoy them, too.
Christmas Carol #1 Sang to the Tune of Jingle Bells
“History, history…family history. Oh what fun it is to hear the stories of our tree.
History, history…family history. Oh what fun it is to hear the stories of our tree.
There’s George and Matthew Todd, the uncles from abroad,
They came across the sea…in 1883.
And don’t forget great grandma, who wouldn’t be out done, she lit that dynamite for fun to see the people run!
Oh! History, history…family history. Oh what fun it is to hear the stories of our tree.
History, history…family history. Oh what fun it is to hear the stories of our tree.”
Christmas Carol #2 Sang to the Tune of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
“Rockin’ around the pedigree at the Family History Library.
Books are stacked where you can see, every gen-e-al-o-gy.
Rockin’ around the pedigree, let the search for Grandma start.
Soon we’ll see some censuses and we’ll check some pensions, too.
We will get a sentimental feeling when we hear, Cousin singing “Lets be jolly. Look! I found our grandma, Molly!”
Rockin’ around the pedigree at the Family History Library.
Everyone searching merrily in the new and siway.”
Christmas Carol #3 Sang to the Tune of Deck the Halls
“Swab your cheek for DNA, fa-la-la-la-laaaaa-la-la-la-la.
‘Tis the season for a spit tube, fa-la-la-la-laaaa-la-la-la-la.
Then, we send the DNA in, fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.
Now, we wait to get our answers, fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.”
Christmas Carol #4 Sang to the Tune of Oh Christmas Tree
“Oh family tree, oh family tree…your branches are so lovely.
Oh family tree, oh family tree…your branches mean so much to me.
Not only when I add a name or find the place from whence they came.
Oh family tree, oh family tree…your branches are so lovely.”
Have a special carol you wish to share? Leave it in the comments below for everyone to enjoy! Happy holidays, friends and may your days be merry and bright!
