Your DNA Education for National DNA Day
Today, we are sharing with you the best in DNA education. DNA testing and using the results to further your genealogy can be confusing. Which test to buy, which company to buy from, how to read the results, are just a few of the important questions consumers have.
There is a plethora of information online to help you learn and educate yourself, but even that is confusing! So what’s a newbie to do?
Let me share with you my suggestions.
First, find a genetic specialist that you understand. I have attended many DNA lectures over the years. They are not all created equal. I consider myself an educated woman, but some of the lectures were way over my head. I needed it broken down and taught to me in little pieces that were easy to understand. I found my go-to genetic genealogist was Diahan Southard.
I have heard Diahan speak on many occasions. In every case, I walked away with a greater understanding and the ability to use DNA for genealogy.
Second, follow your specialist closely. Diahan is the resident DNA expert at Lisa Louise Cooke’s Genealogy Gems website. Here, she writes regularly on the Genealogy Gems blog about DNA testing, companies, how to use your results and a lot more.
She also offers her amazing quick-guides for DNA on the site. And, I have some exciting news for you! For a limited time, Genealogy Gems and Diahan are offering the Genetic Genealogy Jumbo Pack on sale. This jumbo pack of DNA goodies includes all 10 of the quick-guides in digital form and a bonus video class titled “Beginning Genetic Genealogy.”
Starting on April 20th and running through the 25th, you can use coupon code DNADAY for an extra 15% off the bundle, or any individual DNA guides in either print or digital format.
