What is Filae for French Genealogy?
Filae is a French genealogy website with over one billion digitized and transcribed genealogical records from France. Their company was started in 1994 and you may have known it as NotreFamille.com or Genealogie.com. In 2016, the company’s name changed to Filae.com.
Records at Filae include censuses, parish records, marriage certificates, and more! For a complete list of their holdings, click here or see the image.
The amazing collection at Filae is quite extensive reaching back to records created in the 1500s! Though the records are written in French, the website can be accessed in both French and English.
What Will Happen When MyHeritage Acquires Filae?
Once the acquisition is completed, the historical record collections at Filae will be loaded onto the MyHeritage website. MyHeritage users will then have access to these records with their MyHeritage subscription.
It is the hope of MyHeritage to assist Filae in moving the digitizing and indexing of other French record collections forward at greater speed. Filae will continue to be based in Paris and the founder, Toussaint Roze, will continue to run operations for the company. Current subscribers of Filae will remain unchanged, but some new benefits will be introduced to it’s members soon.
