RootsTech 2020 has gotten off to a great start. This year marks the 10th anniversary. Read on to get a little taste of what’s happening here in Salt Lake City!
Sessions started on Wednesday morning and my first class was PACKED! We talked about those early census records between 1790 and 1840. Even though they do not often have more than just the head-of-household’s name, there are loads of hidden information in them! Here’s a tip: The 1820 US Federal Census has a “Phantom.” What do I mean? Read more about the Phantom Male of the 1820 US Census, here.
My next class was part of the Virtual Pass. Haven’t heard about the Virtual Pass? Click here to learn more. This class shared the beginning steps of finding your birth family and the story of you. One tip that you simply can’t ignore? Visit Adoptee Rights Law Center website and blog. Greg Luce, an attorney working for adoptees, is providing vital information for anyone trying to obtain their original birth certificate and more.
Opening session was BIG, as always! Steve Rockwood and the RootsTech Team shared the amazing journey of RootsTech over the last 10 years. I think the biggest announcement was the news that RootsTech London is coming again this year! So mark those schedules for 5 – 7 November, 2020.
And last, but certainly not least, RootsTech was overrun with the next generation of genealogists! Youth from all over the nearby Utah counties came to visit the Expo Hall and enjoy the fun activities with virtual reality, escape rooms, and more. I have never in my LIFE seen more people in one area than I did this night…it was hopping!
